Grayson Lunsford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cooper Hartis was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Bessemer City suffered their closest loss since March 26, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Pinnacle Classical Academy by a score of 6-4.
Justin Short put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Short was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Highland Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Bessemer City, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Highland Tech has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bessemer City struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Highland Tech's way against Bessemer City when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Highland Tech made off with a 10-3 victory. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellow Jackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
