The Laguna Hills Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 48-34 to Irvine. While losing is never fun, Laguna Hills can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 983rd, while Irvine is ranked 393rd).
Cooper Stearns was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with nine rebounds for Irvine. That makes it three consecutive games in which Stearns has scored at least a third of Irvine's points. Taewon Kim was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds.
Laguna Hills' loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-20. As for Irvine, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Laguna Hills will head out on the road to face off against Northwood at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Northwood has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 498 points over their last seven contests. As for Irvine, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Portola at 7:00 p.m. Portola has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
