Tucson High Magnet School has gone 8-2 against Marana recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Badgers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Tucson High Magnet School is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Tucson High Magnet School and Cienega, and Tucson High Magnet School kept the tradition alive. The Badgers walked away with a 7-3 win over the Bobcats on Wednesday.
Alyssa Torres spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Adreana Hernandez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Jaliyah Grigsby was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Marana, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They blew past West Point 15-5 on Wednesday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Marana also got a great performance from Emma Winter as she pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Winter has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Marana let Bella Sanchez and Kyla Layton run wild. Sanchez went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Layton scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Beck, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Marana was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. They are 14-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Tucson High Magnet School is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Marana, their win bumped their record up to 15-11.
Marana's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Tucson High Magnet School has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Marana, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Tucson High Magnet School's sizable advantage in that area, the Tigers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Tucson High Magnet School beat Marana 11-6 in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Do the Badgers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
