The Whitefield Academy WolfPack are taking a road trip to face off against the Mount Vernon Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Whitefield Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.5 points per game this season.
Whitefield Academy took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 53-14 win over Landmark Christian. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the WolfPack's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the War Eagles are ranked 295th).
Whitefield Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ava Anthony, who posted 14 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Millie Newman, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards.
Meanwhile, Mount Vernon played a tough matchup on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 53-22 loss at the hands of King's Ridge Christian. The Mustangs were down 39-17 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Whitefield Academy will have to keep a close watch on Ella Clockadale and Siena Tiffin, a pair of players who had a big impact on Mount Vernon's prior game. Clockadale earned four points, while Tiffin had five points and six rebounds.
Whitefield Academy's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.2 points over those games. As for Mount Vernon, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Whitefield Academy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 60.5 points per game. It's a different story for Mount Vernon, though, as they've been averaging only 24.4 points. The only thing between Whitefield Academy and another offensive beatdown is the Mustangs. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Whitefield Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Mount Vernon in their previous matchup back in December of 2016, winning 50-40. Will the WolfPack repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
