Samantha Cook and Sydney Chirco were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Cook struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Chirco pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cook has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Cook went 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Chirco scored a run while going 1-for-1. Those four hits gave Cook a new career-high.
In other batting news, Yorba Linda got a massive performance out of Liliya Cartledge, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most doubles Cartledge has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalia Wojtuszewski, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and one stolen base.
Yorba Linda hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Foothill came up short against Troy on Tuesday and fell 7-3.
Violet Bonnet and Rodriguez Haley did some serious damage despite the final result: Bonnet went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Haley scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Yorba Linda has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Foothill, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-10.
Yorba Linda took their win against Foothill in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 11-0 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
