The Hilliard Darby Panthers will square off against the Dublin Scioto Irish at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. Hilliard Darby is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Last Wednesday, Hilliard Darby needed a bit of extra time to put away Hilliard Davidson. They won by a run and slipped past the Wildcats 4-3. The win was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Marley Grigsby spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lorelai Gum, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Kaydence Speelman was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Dublin Scioto was a bit more limited in their game on Wednesday. They came up short against Olentangy Orange, falling 8-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Irish have suffered since April 25, 2024.
Dublin Scioto saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Jackson, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Dublin Scioto has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-5 record this season. As for Hilliard Darby, their victory bumped their record up to 14-6.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hilliard Darby has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. However, it's not like Dublin Scioto struggles in that department as they've averaged .475. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
