Pomeroy hasn't had much luck against Colton recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. Pomeroy has given up an average of 17.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Pomeroy is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 16th straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They lost 19-9 to Rosalia.
Meanwhile, Colton came tearing into Saturday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 23-3 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won seven games by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Clair Moehrle made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Moehrle was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Colton got a massive performance out of Ella Nollmeyer, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Holly Heitstuman was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Colton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 14 hits in five consecutive matches.
Colton pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.8 runs over those games. As for Pomeroy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pomeroy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Colton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Pomeroy suffered a grim 23-1 defeat to Colton when the teams last played two weeks ago. Will the Pirates have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
