The Perry Commodores will head out to square off against the North Baltimore Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Perry took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Hardin Northern a 15-0 shutout. That 15-run margin sets a new team best for the Commodores this season.
Landon Cockerell and Marshall Capps made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Cockerell didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Capps pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Cockerell a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At the plate, Cockerell went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Capps went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Wyatt Taviano was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Darrell Gilbert also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Perry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Monday. North Baltimore put the hurt on Waynesfield-Goshen with a sharp 15-0 win. Considering North Baltimore has won three matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Zander South made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because North Baltimore is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise. South was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, North Baltimore let Cooper Clark and Zech Boyd-Reyes run wild. Clark got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Boyd-Reyes got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Boyd-Reyes is becoming a predictor of North Baltimore's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Johnie Eaken was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Perry pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for North Baltimore, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Perry has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like North Baltimore struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Perry couldn't quite finish off North Baltimore when the teams last played back in April of 2025 and fell 3-1. Can the Commodores avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
