Buena and Cienega are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. Buena will welcome Cienega at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup will give Buena their first taste of in-conference action this season.
Buena is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Sunnyside on Friday as Buena made off with a 14-6 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Colts needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Angel Olivarez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Austin Cushman was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two triples and three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Vicente Haros, who scored a run.
Buena always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Cienega hadn't done well against Catalina Foothills recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Cienega won by a run and slipped past Catalina Foothills 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bobcats.
ZAK VASQUEZ spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits.
On the hitting side, Cienega's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was JAMES LINZMEYER, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Cienega now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Buena, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
Buena beat Cienega 10-7 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Does Buena have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cienega turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
