Sahuarita has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Cienega Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sahuarita will be strutting in after a victory while Cienega will be coming in after a defeat.
Sahuarita has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 21 points or more this season. They breezed by Apache Junction at home to the tune of 79-23. With that win, Sahuarita brought their scoring average up to 51.8 points per game.
It was another big night for Karol Ortiz, who scored 15 points along with nine assists and three steals. Those nine assists set a new season-high mark for she. The team also got some help courtesy of Kealey Myhre, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cienega pushed their score all the way to 55 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Catalina Foothills 60-55.
Cienega's defeat came about despite a quality game from Taylor Hitchcock, who scored 21 points along with three steals. Elizabeth Puente was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Sahuarita pushed their record up to 8-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Cienega, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.
Sahuarita couldn't quite finish off Cienega in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 and fell 34-32. Can Sahuarita avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
