It was a good run, but the Yazoo County Panthers unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell to Canton 45-41. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Yazoo County in their matchups with Canton: they've now lost six in a row.
Canton found their leader in underclassman Shamira Morton, who dropped a triple-double on 16 points, ten rebounds, and ten blocks. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Morton has scored at least 25% of Canton's points. Another player making a difference was Na'Miya Davis, who scored 16 points along with four steals.
Yazoo County's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-3. As for Canton, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Yazoo County will stay at home for another game and welcome Crystal Springs at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th. Crystal Springs will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 220th, while Yazoo County is ranked 39th). Canton will be home for the holidays to greet Murrah at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Murrah and Canton are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
