This season hasn't been kind to the Crawfordsville Athenians, who are still winless after their 22nd game. They fell 43-31 to Frankfort on Friday. Crawfordsville was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Frankfort apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Crawfordsville had strong showings from Olivia Hedrick, who scored eight points along with six rebounds, and Caroline Melevage, who scored six points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Melevage pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Even though they lost, Crawfordsville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Frankfort only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Frankfort to victory, but perhaps none more so than Saira Flores, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Flores is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Ella Mcatee, who scored 17 points along with four steals.
Crawfordsville dropped their record down to 0-22 with that loss, which was their 11th straight at home. As for Frankfort, their win ended a 20-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-21.
Crawfordsville will face off against Tri-West Hendricks at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Tri-West Hendricks presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Crawfordsville in Indiana (Tri-West Hendricks is ranked 144th, while Crawfordsville is ranked 400th). Frankfort on the road again on Tuesday and play against West Lafayette at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Hopefully West Lafayette focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday.
