Williamson and Towanda are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Warriors will host the Black Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Williamson and Canton had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Williamson was the clear victor by a 19-2 margin over Canton on Monday. The win continues a trend for Williamson in their matchups with Canton: they've now won three in a row.
Olivia Gee was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Gee was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Williamson got a massive performance out of Savannah Dean, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Aubree Roe, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Williamson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Towanda waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hornets a 10-0 shutout.
The result came thanks to Aleah Johnson's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tae Lynn Brabant, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Perry, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Williamson's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Towanda, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Williamson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Towanda struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Williamson was able to grind out a solid victory over Towanda when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 9-4. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Black Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
