On Friday, The Canterbury Crusaders faced the Donahue Catholic Shamrocks in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Canterbury had to suffer through a rough 42-0 loss at the hands of Donahue Catholic. Canterbury was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Roman Wilder threw for 97 yards on eight of 13 attempts. Jordan Battle was his top target, picking up 91 receiving yards.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Donahue Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Leo Cantwell, who rushed for 193 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also caught a touchdown. Cantwell was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 62 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of John McCabe, who rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Canterbury to a paltry 144 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Donahue Catholic's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out eight times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Cy Ifenuk and Cantwell who racked up six sacks between them.
Canterbury's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Donahue Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
Canterbury's homestand continues as they prepare to take on The Classical Academy of Sarasota at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (The Classical Academy of Sarasota is ranked 20th, while Canterbury is ranked 16th). Donahue Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
