The Westminster Christian Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Aurora Central Catholic Chargers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Westminster Christian has five straight wins, Aurora Central Catholic has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Monday, Westminster Christian made easy work of Alden-Hebron and carried off an 11-1 victory. Considering the Warriors have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Sam Dries was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Bartolome, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Westminster Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alden-Hebron struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, Aurora Central Catholic fell victim to Marmion and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Cadets by a score of 1-0. That's two games in a row now that the Chargers have lost by just one run.
Cayden Lohrey was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 6.1 innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April.
Westminster Christian pushed their record up to 14-12-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Aurora Central Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-13.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Westminster Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Aurora Central Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
