Basketball Game Preview: Eaton Reds vs. Wiggins Tigers

The Eaton Reds will challenge the Wiggins Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Eaton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine contests.

Eaton is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Frontier Academy 94-55. The win continues a trend for the Reds in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won seven in a row.

Eaton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Noah Sprinkle out in front who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. Sprinkle is becoming a predictor of Eaton's success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is 6-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't). Crew Haythorn was another key player, going 6-for-11 to rack up 17 points and three steals.

Eaton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Wiggins played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Platte Valley, falling 50-29. The contest marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Eaton pushed their record up to 13-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.5 points over those games. As for Wiggins, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Eaton against Wiggins when the teams last played back in December of 2021, as the squad secured an 83-43 victory. Will Eaton repeat their success, or does Wiggins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
