The Wildwood Wildcats suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by South Sumter on the road and fell 74-42. While losing is never fun, Wildwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 590th, while South Sumter is ranked 255th).
Despite the loss, Wildwood had strong showings from Zayden Garcia, who scored 15 points along with two steals, and Terriyon Bryant, who scored 12 points. That's the first time this season that Garcia grabbed two or more steals.
Wildwood's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-11. As for South Sumter, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-7.
Wildwood will take on Halifax Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Halifax Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 960 points over their last 14 matchups. As for South Sumter, they will head out on the road to take on Citrus at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
