Leading by 39 points entering the fourth quarter didn't stop
Western Branch (Chesapeake, Va.) from scoring, as it added 11 points in the final quarter on the way to a 50-0 victory over Lakeland (Suffolk, Va.) on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run in the first quarter, the Bruins led 26-0 at the half.
Western Branch expanded its lead to 39 points entering the fourth quarter. WB scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run.
Josh Marriner played well for the Chesapeake school in the victory. The junior running back ran for one touchdown.
The victory will ease some of the sting of the Bruins' close 26-23 loss to the Cavaliers last season.
With the win Western Branch extended its winning streak to three games. The loss snapped Lakeland's 2-game winning streak.
Western Branch (3-0) goes up against King's Fork in a AAA Southeastern game matchup next week, while Lakeland (2-1) locks horns with Oscar Smith also in a AAA Southeastern game.
