The Sarasota Sailors will challenge the Alonso Ravens at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Sarasota is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against George Jenkins, sneaking past 7-6. The victory continues a trend for the Sailors in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.
Jack Mohrmann looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Johnny Lackaff, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Evan Whitlock, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Saturday as neither Alonso nor Windermere made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Ravens narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Wolverines 4-3.
Christopher Padilla looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Raymond Llanes was excellent, going 1-for-3 with four RBI and one double.
Alonso hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.
Alonso pushed their record up to 17-11 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Sarasota, their victory bumped their record up to 22-6-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Sarasota has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Alonso struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
