The Southwestern Warriors came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Somerset 73-38 at home. Given Southwestern's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Briar Jumpers are ranked 181st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Southwestern got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Payton Acey out in front who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsley Molden, who scored 13 points along with five assists and three steals.
Southwestern is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Somerset, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which is still a better percentage than their 4-15 record this season.
Southwestern won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Bearcats at 5:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Anderson County is on a six-game streak of home wins, the Warriors a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Somerset will take on the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
