Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school girls basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022-23 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Jadyn Donovan of
Sidwell Friends is the 2022-23 MaxPreps District of Columbia High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot senior guard led the Quakers to a 28-3 record, DCSAA AA title and top 10 national ranking.
For the season, Donovan averaged 14.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.2 assist and 2.0 steals. She put up 20 points and 10 rebounds in a 68-49 win over St. John's in the DCSAA AA championship game.

After helping Sidwell Friends go 58-3 over the past two seasons, Donovan will continue her basketball career next season at Duke.
Former teammate Kiki Rice was the 2021-22 MaxPreps District of Columbia Player of the Year. Now a freshman at UCLA, Rice averaged 15.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game to help the Quakers go 30-0 and finish No. 1 nationally according to MaxPreps.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released in April. Past selections include 2022 WNBA Most Valuable Player A'ja Wilson (2014) as well as 2022 All-WNBA picks Skylar Diggins-Smith (2009), Sabrina Ionescu (2016), Jonquel Jones (2012), Nneka Ogwumike (2008), Kelsey Plum (2013), Breanna Stewart (2012) and Alyssa Thomas (2010).
