The Clawson Trojans will take on the Cousino Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cousino will be up against a hot Clawson team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. Everything went the Trojans' way against Hazel Park on Tuesday as they made off with a 14-8 win. That's two games straight that the Trojans have won by exactly six runs.
Meanwhile, Cousino got themselves on the board against Center Line on Tuesday, but Center Line never followed suit. They blew past the Panthers 18-0. The Patriots have beaten the Panthers the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Panthers has come to flipping the script.
Madison Blase made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Blase was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs.
In other batting news, Payton Hewitt was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Isabella Hormillosa, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Cousino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .543 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Clawson's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Cousino, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 4-6.
Clawson came out on top in a nail-biter against Cousino when the teams last played on April 8th, sneaking past 7-5. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
