Providence Day is 8-2 against Charlotte Christian since October of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Chargers will venture away from home to face off against the Knights at 7:00 p.m. Providence Day knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Charlotte Christian likes a good challenge.
Providence Day's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They breezed past Charlotte Latin to the tune of 41-0. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Zaid Lott continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 134 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries, while also throwing for 38 yards and one touchdown. Another player making a difference was Aidan Gallos, who rushed for 78 yards and one TD on only nine carries.
Providence Day didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Charlotte Latin to a completion percentage of just 45%. The team can thank Lucas Sutton for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Providence Day; they were averaging 62.2%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three matchups they've fallen to only 62.2%.
Providence Day's defense didn't let Troy Logan, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jace Goodwin, Jacob Ahmadivarji, and Ashton Gibbs, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Meanwhile, the third road contest was the charm for Charlotte Christian, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They took down Charlotte Country Day School 55-38 on Friday. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Buccaneers are ranked 106th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Providence Day better keep an eye on Jamal Rule. He was instrumental in Charlotte Christian's win, rushing for 284 yards and four scores while picking up 15.8 yards per carry. Rule is becoming a predictor of the Knights' success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't).
Providence Day's record now sits at 8-0. As for Charlotte Christian, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Providence Day has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 190.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Charlotte Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 156.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Providence Day beat Charlotte Christian 28-20 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Rule, who rushed for 230 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Chargers still be able to contain Rule? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
