2A Region 1 recap November 5, 2013
Baldwyn added to the longest winning streak in 2A Region 1 this week by beating New Site, 41-12. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Bearcats.
Walnut fell to Mantachie 42-12 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Dustin Carrell was a passing and rushing force as the Mustangs defeated the Wildcats. He completed 9 passes for 148 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 62 yards.
Armontie Price was a key player and the best on defense this week as Baldwyn bested the Royals. The 5-foot-11 freshman recorded 1 fumble.
Corbin Scott and Duke Upshaw gave Michael Gray's team a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Scott threw for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Upshaw ran for 110 yards. Laquintez Upshaw also contributed to the rushing game with 80 yards on the ground.
Mantachie's Carrell and Nick Burns led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Carrell has thrown for 1,631 yards this season, while Burns has 35 catches for 647 yards. J.T. Herring from New Site leads the league in rushing with 1,244 yards.
Lynn Moore's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,164 from 9,966. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 42-12 victory over Walnut last week.
