Josh Heilman made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. Those 18 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Brody Cox was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Justin Heilman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Upper Sandusky hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Columbian came up short against Bellevue on Wednesday and fell 8-5. The Tornadoes have struggled against the Redmen recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Isaiah Tilse made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnny Bremyer, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Upper Sandusky's record now sits at 11-3. As for Columbian, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Upper Sandusky has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Columbian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Upper Sandusky skirted past Columbian 3-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
