The Hiram Hornets's game last Monday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They walked away with a 71-64 win over Calhoun. Given Hiram's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Calhoun is ranked 349th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Calhoun lost, one person who can't be blamed is Emaree Winston. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 29 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Winston has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jace Johns, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds.
Hiram's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.5 points per game. As for Calhoun, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-10.
Hiram will head out on the road to face off against Cartersville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Cartersville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday. As for Calhoun, Calhoun and Dalton will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
