Dunbar is 0-4 against Ida Baker since February of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Dunbar Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Ida Baker Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Dunbar has given up an average of 18.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Things were looking good for Dunbar after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 16-6 to Lehigh. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Austin Price was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off one hit. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.
In other batting news, Lazaro Tio Sanchez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Yeison Avila Crombet, who scored two runs and stole a base.
Meanwhile, Ida Baker beat North Fort Myers 8-5 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.
Like Dunbar, Ida Baker also got a great game from a two-way player: Brody Root. On the mound, he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Root also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ida Baker is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-4 otherwise. Root was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Nick Conticelli looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits.
Root wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nick Longo, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Dunbar's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Ida Baker, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dunbar has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ida Baker struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Dunbar came up short against Ida Baker in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, falling 4-1. Will Dunbar have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
