The Buena Bulldogs suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They were the victim of a tough 70-46 defeat at the hands of Santa Barbara. While losing is never fun, Buena can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 431st, while Santa Barbara is ranked 192nd).
Buena lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jayden Iyer, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh ullegue, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Luke Zuffelato continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Santa Barbara, scoring 27 points. Zuffelato is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Cayleb Miller was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four blocks.
Buena has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season. As for Santa Barbara, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Buena will take on Rio Mesa at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Rio Mesa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. As for Santa Barbara, they will be playing at home against Dos Pueblos at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
