Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Little River Redskins, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell 72-60 to West Elk on Friday. Little River's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Little River's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Andrew Smith, who rushed for 191 yards and five touchdowns, and also threw for 95 yards and a touchdown. Smith has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last seven times he's played. Carter Stansbury also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
West Elk's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Creyo Koop, who rushed for 186 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 11.6 yards per carry, and also picked up 39 receiving yards. Koop has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last ten times he's played. Trent Haag was another major influence, as he rushed for 80 yards and ran in a TD.
Little River's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for West Elk, their win was their sixth straight at home , which pushed their record up to 9-1.
Little River does not have any more games scheduled as of now. West Elk will face off against Lyndon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Lyndon's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
