The West Laurens Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Spalding, falling 82-44. West Laurens has not had much luck with Spalding recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why West Laurens lost, one person who can't be blamed is Omarion Coverson. Despite the final result, he scored ten points along with two steals. Juvon Hill was another key contributor, scoring four points along with three steals.
Spalding's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bahji Daniel led the charge by scoring 18 points along with six assists and two steals. Daniel hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Curt Clark, who scored 19 points along with six assists and two steals.
West Laurens bumped their record down to 2-13 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Spalding, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-7.
West Laurens will head out on the road to challenge Griffin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Griffin presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than West Laurens in Georgia (Griffin is ranked 211th, while West Laurens is ranked 456th). As for Spalding, they will be playing at home against Howard at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
