8A District 13 recap Oct. 3, 2012
North Miami moved up to 258 from 306 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 8A District 13. The Pioneers were able to make the jump by beating Miami 56-7.
North Miami took down the Stingarees 56-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. James Volcy threw for 134 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 58 yards in the win.
Dr. Krop's dynamic duo of Keon Roman and Ryan Mayes proved tough for Miami Springs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Roman threw for 268 yards and four touchdowns and Mayes had 86 yards receiving. La'Darius Murray helped Dr. Krop's passing attack out by catching two balls for 63 yards.
Charles Romane was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 11 carries, he ran for 81 yards as Ed Williams's team bested the Golden Hawks.
5-foot-10 quarterback Roman of Dr. Krop is the league leader in passing yards this season with 757. He has also thrown eight touchdowns. On the ground, the Pioneers' Romane has rushed for 292 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Nesley Ostral. The North Miami star has 14 catches for 417 yards.
A big matchup in 8A District 13 this week will be when David Hudson's team takes on North Miami Beach. As it stands, the Lightning are in second, while the Chargers are in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when North Miami takes on Hialeah. The Pioneers have allowed 105 points this season, while the Thoroughbreds have given up 90. North Miami allowed 7 points last week as it topped Miami.
The Pioneers made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,564 from 5,837. The improvement was the result of 56-7 victory over Frank Welsh's team last week.
