Brandon will challenge Mize at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Brandon 3.6, Mize 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Brandon is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Oak Grove just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 4-3.
Jay McQueen put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. McQueen was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
McQueen wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Keith Forbes, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Mize got the win against North Forrest on Friday by a conclusive 9-3. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.
Like Brandon, Mize also got a great game from a two-way player: Garrison Carrell. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, Carrell posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Parker Himmel was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Trey Myers, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Mize hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Forrest struck out ten times.
Mize is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Brandon, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-11.
