The Highland Prep Honey Badgers struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Glendale Prep Academy Griffins had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Highland Prep took a hard 51-32 fall against Glendale Prep Academy. While losing is never fun, Highland Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Glendale Prep Academy is ranked 80th).
Highland Prep's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anahi Nunez, who scored 12 points. Nunez continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played.
Senna Smith was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds for Glendale Prep Academy. Smith has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Maggie Hawkins, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Highland Prep and nudges their season record down to 4-9. As for Glendale Prep Academy, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland Prep will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Northland Prep Academy at 5:30 p.m. on January 18th. Northland Prep Academy is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games. As for Glendale Prep Academy, they will head out on the road to take on BASIS Phoenix at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. BASIS Phoenix will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
