Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Moore Haven Terriers, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a serious blow against the Lions on Friday, falling 35-0. While losing is never fun, Moore Haven can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 245th, while First Baptist Academy is ranked 104th).
The team lost despite holding First Baptist Academy to a paltry 239 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Moore Haven's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out 12.5 times before it was all said and done. It was a group effort, with three picking up two apiece.
First Baptist Academy was led to victory by Winston Watkins jr. and Sam Sparacio. Watkins jr. gained 86 total yards and three touchdowns, while Sparacio rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Moore Haven's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-4. As for First Baptist Academy, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Moore Haven does not have any more games scheduled as of now. First Baptist Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Trinity Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Trinity Catholic is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
