It was a good run, but the Wellington Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 44-43 to Liberty Common. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wellington in their matchups with Liberty Common: they've now lost four in a row.
Wellington's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Essay, who scored 18 points along with four steals. That was a full 41.9% of Wellington's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brookelyn Jones, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Liberty Common's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grace Falsetto, who scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was Jill Koontz, who scored eight points.
Wellington's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Liberty Common, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wellington will take on Platte Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Platte Valley has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 2. As for Liberty Common, they will head out on the road to square off against Flatirons Academy at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Flatirons Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Liberty Common in Colorado (Flatirons Academy is ranked 30th, while Liberty Common is ranked 230th).
