The Topsail Pirates lost against the New Hanover Wildcats back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Topsail was beaten by the Wildcats 65-23. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Topsail has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Topsail had strong showings from Spencer Henry, who scored seven points, and Sean Sapungan, who scored four points along with two blocks. It was the first time this season that Sapungan posted two or more blocks.
New Hanover's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zeus Batts led the charge by scoring nine points along with eight assists and five rebounds. It was the first time this season that Batts posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Nolan Billings, who scored 11 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Topsail and nudges their season record down to 5-13. As for New Hanover, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 19-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Topsail will challenge the Scorpions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. North Brunswick will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak alive. As for New Hanover, they will head out on the road to take on the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Brunswick has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 21.
