Hagerstown and Monroe Central are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Tigers will venture away from home to challenge the Golden Bears at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hagerstown will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
On Wednesday, Hagerstown earned a 7-2 win over Shenandoah.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Monroe Central). They put the hurt on Daleville with a sharp 15-0 victory on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Caleb Luedike was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Luedike was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Monroe Central is undefeated when Luedike posts three or more RBI, but 2-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Logan Walker was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Middleton, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Monroe Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Hagerstown pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Monroe Central, their record is now 5-3.
Hagerstown took their victory against Monroe Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
