The Irmo Yellowjackets lost against the Ridge View Blazers back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Irmo lost to the Blazers at home by a decisive 54-35 margin. While losing is never fun, Irmo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Blazers are ranked 20th).
Claire Howard and Abby Livingston certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Howard scored 14 points along with four blocks, while Livingston scored 11 points.
Ridge View's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Simone Johnson, who scored ten points along with five steals. Destiny Drakeford was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Irmo's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Ridge View, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Irmo will face off against the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. A.C. Flora is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.2 points per game this season. As for Ridge View, they will head out on the road to take on the Redhawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Westwood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
