The Sunset Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Ferguson an easy 54-28 victory. While losing is never fun, Sunset can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 540th, while Ferguson is ranked 207th).
Despite the loss, Sunset had strong showings from Bianca Pacheco, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds, and Alyssa Torrech, who scored nine points. Pacheco has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played.
Sophia Diaz was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points for Ferguson. Another player making a difference was Alexis Fernandez, who scored 11 points.
Sunset bumped their record down to 2-7 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.0 points per game. As for Ferguson, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-3.
Sunset will be home for the holidays to greet Killian at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Killian comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 15 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Ferguson's road trip will continue as they head out to face Coral Reef at 7:30 p.m. on December 20th.
