After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Jordan Christian Prep, the McKeel Academy Wildcats were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They walked away with a 47-35 victory over Lake Placid. That result was just more of the same for these two, as McKeel Academy also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
McKeel Academy was led to victory by Nicaria McHellon and Ava Anderson. McHellon scored 14 points along with two steals, while Anderson dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Anderson has scored at least a third of McKeel Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Jackson, who scored three points along with six assists and five rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Lake Placid lost, one person who can't be blamed is Antranique Felton. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. Felton is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Taraje Walker, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Lake Placid struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as McKeel Academy racked up nine assists.
McKeel Academy now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Lake Placid, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
McKeel Academy will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against George Jenkins at 7:30 p.m. Lake Placid won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Victory Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on January 12th. Hopefully Victory Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Friday.
