The Coolidge Bears's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Vista Grande Spartans at 3:30 p.m. on December 21st. Hopefully Coolidge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Monday.
On Monday, Coolidge's game was all tied up 19-19 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 53-44 victory over Sabino. Given Coolidge's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while Sabino is ranked 316th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Coolidge found their leader in underclassman Tory Gholston, who scored 22 points along with six assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Dees, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Vista Grande was beaten by Dysart 72-44 on Monday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Vista Grande in their matchups with Dysart: they've now lost three in a row.
Coolidge's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Vista Grande, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
Everything came up roses for Coolidge against Vista Grande when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 69-42 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Coolidge since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
