South has gone a perfect 3-0 against Perry recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Rebels will look to defend their home field against the Pirates at 1:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Saturday.
South is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Mayfield on Wednesday as they made off with a 16-6 victory. The Rebels have beaten the Wildcats the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wildcats has come to flipping the script.
Addy Matriano was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariya Reed, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
South hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Perry had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 30-1 win. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by ten runs or more this season.
Morgan Winters was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Arianna Rogers, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Madeline Infalvi was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Perry's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for South, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
South was able to grind out a solid victory over Perry in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 10-5. Will the Rebels repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
