The Coronado Leopards's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 53-17 loss at the hands of Roy/Mosquero. Coronado was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-8.
Coronado's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ashlynn Jaramillo, who scored eight points. Jaramillo scored a full 47.1% of Coronado's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Naomi Velasquez, who scored five points.
Coronado has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Roy/Mosquero, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coronado and Northwest will face off at 4:00 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Northwest is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Roy/Mosquero is on the road again on Friday and play against Jemez Valley at 1:00 p.m. on January 12th.
