The Chaminade-Madonna Lions will head out to square off against the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chaminade-Madonna is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
Chaminade-Madonna proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by six) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past True North Classical Academy 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted since March 11th.
Chaminade-Madonna got a great performance from Spencer Krasner as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.
At the plate, Joshua Wright was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Gibbons had just enough and edged out American Heritage 4-3 on Tuesday.
Jack Campbell looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Randy Petron, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Peyton Douglas, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Chaminade-Madonna pushed their record up to 18-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Cardinal Gibbons, their record now sits at 9-12.
Cardinal Gibbons' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Chaminade-Madonna hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. It's a different story for Cardinal Gibbons, though, as they've only averaged .245. Will they be able to contain Chaminade-Madonna's hitters?
Chaminade-Madonna couldn't quite get it done against Cardinal Gibbons in their previous meeting back in April of 2021 as they fell 5-2. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
