Overton hasn't had much luck against Whitehaven recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Wolverines will square off against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Overton has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Overton came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 16-6 to Southwind.
Antwan Hooker was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammy Kehrli, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Whitehaven, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top against Kingsbury on Tuesday by a score of 9-7 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since May 3, 2024.
Andrew Robinson and Jaylon Dodson were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Robinson didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Dodson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Whitehaven is 2-0-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-5 otherwise. At bat, Robinson went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Dodson went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ramar Smith was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Jarvis Neely also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Whitehaven was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .438 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Overton's loss dropped their record down to 12-5-1. As for Whitehaven, their record is now 4-5-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Overton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 12.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Whitehaven struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
