On the hitting side, Dayton Taylor was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Connor Lewis, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
While Ponte Vedra didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Beachside 1-0. The victory was familiar territory for the Sharks, who have now won four matchups in a row.
Not much got past Storm Lickliter, who gave up just a hit to keep Beachside off the board. That's the fewest hits Lickliter has allowed since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, Ponte Vedra's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jack Brady, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
St. Joseph Academy's record is now 5-1. As for Ponte Vedra, their record is now 5-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. St. Joseph Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ponte Vedra struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
St. Joseph Academy beat Ponte Vedra 4-0 in their previous meeting back in March of 2022. Will St. Joseph Academy repeat their success, or does Ponte Vedra have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
