The Boardman Spartans will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Canfield Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Boardman has struggled recently with 16 defeats in a row, while Canfield will arrive with six straight wins.
Last Saturday, Boardman came up short against Canton Central Catholic and fell 58-47. While losing is never fun, Boardman can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 509th, while Canton Central Catholic is ranked 169th).
Boardman's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Terrell Mcdowell, who scored 15 points along with two steals, and Grayson Eicher who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Jeff Markovitch was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Poland Seminary typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Canfield proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 42-34.
Boardman's defeat was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Canfield, their victory bumped their record up to 15-4.
Boardman might still be hurting after the 60-36 loss they got from Canfield in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Canfield's Dom Cruz, who scored 19 points. Now that Boardman knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
