Many of the players on this week's National Player of the Year Watch came through with some of their best performances of the season including Trey Quinn of Barbe (Lake Charles, La.), who is looking to set the national record for career receiving yardage this week.

Will Grier, Davidson Day (Davidson, N.C.)
Grier had his best outing of the season in a 59-0 win over Cannon as he completed 21 of 23 passes for 439 yards and a season-best nine touchdown passes. He climbed within five touchdowns of the all-time North Carolina career touchdown record of 185, set by Chris Leak of Independence (Charlotte). Grier has completed 259 of 374 passes for 3,892 yards and a national best 62 touchdowns. For his career, Grier has thrown for 13,468 yards and 180 touchdowns. His yardage total is ninth best in national history and his touchdown total ranks third.
Elijah Hood, Charlotte Catholic (N.C.)
Hood ran for five touchdowns for the fourth time this year in leading Charlotte Catholic to a 42-17 win over Providence. He carried 20 times for 250 yards, giving him 2,580 yards on the season on 249 carries. He has 37 touchdowns on the year, giving him 120 in his career.
Grant Sherman, Kenton (Ohio)
Sherman set a national record in a 58-14 win over Gallion as he threw eight touchdowns in the first half. Sherman did not play in the second half and ended up completing 37 of 51 passes for 476 yards and eight touchdown passes. Sherman leads the nation in passing yardage with 4,538 yards in 11 games. He also has 53 touchdowns. He could surpass 10,000 career yards this weekend as he needs just 487 yards to pass the milestone.
Trey Quinn, Barbe (Lake Charles, La.)
Quinn could become the nation's all-time leader in receiving yardage this weekend as he needs just 176 yards to match the career total of Dorial Green-Beckham, who had 6,356 yards for Hillcrest (Springfield, Mo.). Quinn made great strides toward the record last week as he had 10 catches for 299 yards and four touchdowns. For the season, Quinn has 88 catches for 1,581 yards. He has 6,180 receiving yards heading into this week's bi-district game with South Lafourche.
Shuler Bentley, Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.)

Bentley had one of his lower yardage totals of the season in a 47-21 win over Wade Hampton as he completed 15 of 19 passes for 254 yards. He did throw for five touchdowns for eighth time this year and has 58 touchdown passes on the season. Bentley is six touchdown passes away from tying Justin Worley's state record of 64 in a season. His 164 touchdown passes rank ninth all-time in national history.
Jake Browning, Folsom (Calif.)
While Browning broke the California state record for touchdown passes in a regular season with 56, according to Cal-Hi Sports, he is also on the verge of setting a state record for completion percentage. By completing 37 of 46 passes (80.4 percent) in his last outing, Browning has a completion percentage of .770. The state record is .781, according to Cal-Hi Sports. Browning has completed over 80 percent of his passes five times this year. For the season, he has completed 275 of 357 passes for 3,948 yards and 56 touchdowns.
Desmon White, DeSoto (Texas)
After three straight big games through the air, White threw for 163 yards (15 of 23) and four touchdowns in a 54-14 win over Mansfield. He had one of his best games running the ball, however, as he carried 11 times for 161 yards, including a long of 73. For the season, White has carried 102 times for 1,175 yards and 14 touchdowns. He has completed 174 of 259 passes for 2,866 yards and 30 touchdowns.
Nick Chubb, Cedartown (Ga.)
Chubb rushed for 278 yards on 27 carries and scored three touchdowns to lift Cedartown to a 40-27 win over Ridgeland. For the season, Chubb has carried 256 times for 2,612 yards and 40 touchdowns.
Deshaun Watson, Gainesville (Ga.)
Gainesville had its closest game of the season since a Week 2 loss to Buford as it edged Flowery Branch 55-45. Watson led the Red Elephants on the ground and through the air as he rushed 21 times for 207 yards and two touchdowns and completed 13 of 24 passes for 245 yards and four scores. For the season, Watson has completed 210 of 301 passes for 2,791 yards and 37 touchdowns. He also went over 12,000 career passing yards and stands at 12,093.
Patrick Mahomes, Whitehouse (Texas)Mahomes led Whitehouse to a 10-0 regular season record by accounting for seven touchdowns in a 55-54 win over Tyler. He completed 25 of 48 passes for 384 yards and five touchdowns. He also rushed 21 times for 82 yards and two scores. For the the season, Mahomes has completed 228 of 378 passes for 3,587 yards and 41 touchdowns.
