Woodgrove has gone 8-2 against Loudoun Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Wolverines will welcome the Vikings at 6:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Woodgrove is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Virginia's top teams: Riverside, who was ranked 25th at the time (Woodgrove was ranked 24th). The Wolverines put the hurt on the Ram with a sharp 17-7 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Ram: they've now won nine in a row.
Danielle Plazyk was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Plazyk was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Woodgrove got a massive performance out of Faith Barker, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Barker has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Grace Anderson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.
Woodgrove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .610. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverside only posted an OBP of .400.
Meanwhile, Loudoun Valley can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over Battlefield. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Vikings considering their two-run performance the contest before.
The team relied heavily on Harlie Reich, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Dunkerley, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Loudoun Valley's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Woodgrove, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Loudoun Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Woodgrove has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 13.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Loudoun Valley, though, as they've been averaging 9.7 hits. Given Woodgrove's sizable advantage in that area, the Vikings will need to find a way to close that gap.
