Softball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is Plainfield East's Third in Last Four Outings

Plainfield East's game two weeks ago was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They never let the Naperville North Huskies get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Bengals, who have now won four contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Jocelyn Cushard's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Plainfield East let Jahaira Malacara and Corinne Garmon run wild. Malacara scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Garmon went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most stolen bases Malacara has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Marie Marcum, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI.

Plainfield East has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Naperville North, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Plainfield East will head out to challenge Joliet Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Naperville North, they will take on Benet Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
